ABOUT JAMES

James Gradwell’s childhood dream to work as a game ranger was realised at the age of twenty when he was made conservation manager of a WWF (World Wildlife Fund) Reserve while doing his Degree in Nature Conservation. He qualified and worked as a traditional game ranger until two years later an opportunity to compete in one of the toughest Field Guide courses in Africa changed his path.

He subsequently joined one of the largest African Tour Operators, CCafrica (& Beyond) where he spent many years working in the most prestigious of South African Game Lodges. It was during this time almost as a natural extension that he developed an intense love of photography as a way of capturing the beauty that surrounded him.

For the past ten years James has led a dual career of Professional Wildlife Guide and Photographer which has taken him through six different continents, included a six month stint living with a remote Amazonian tribe in Ecuador. He is now based in Cape Town where he owns and manages Photography Tours
